Non-UPNP Camera

From Axentra

If your ethernet camera does not support UPnP, you will need to manually configure your camera in the Administration Center in order for it to appear in the MyCams application. To do this, you will first need to determine your camera's IP address.

Determining your camera's IP address

Note: Each router is different. You should consult your router's documentation to learn how to determine the IP address of a device on your network. The instructions given here are guidelines only.

  • Sign in to your Axentra Server and click on the "Administer your Router" link, at the top-right of the page.
    • In newer versions of the HipServ software, this link has been moved to the Administration Center, with the title "Router Configuration", in the Local Network section.
  • A new browser window will open, and your router's administration screen will load.
  • You may be asked for your router's administrator account name and password. Enter them.
  • Find your router's DHCP Client Table or Local Hosts Table. It may be under a section called Advanced.
    • For example, with a Linksys WRT54G router, when signed in to the router's administration screen, click on "Status", then "Local Network", then the "DHCP Clients Table" button. Look for the IP Address next to the Client Host Name for your camera.
  • You will see a list of the IP addresses of all network devices on your LAN. Find the one that corresponds with your camera.
    • Your camera should appear on the list with an appropriate name. It may have the same name as your camera's model number, for example.
    • If you cannot easily identify your camera, identify which devices are not your camera, in order to narrow down the list of possibilities.
  • Write down your camera's IP address.
    • If you were able to eliminate non-camera devices (such as computers and network printers) from the list, but still have more than one possibility, then write down all the remaining IP addresses. Add each one as a camera using the steps below; once you have determined which one is your camera, you can remove the others from the list.

Configuring your camera manually

  • Log in to your Server and go to the admin area.
  • Under the Local Network heading on the left of the page, click "Ethernet Cameras".
  • Click on the Ethernet Camera drop-down menu, and select "Enter manually".
  • Enter your camera's IP address from the above section in the four boxes below the drop-down menu.
    • When you type the period (.) between each number, the cursor should automatically advance to the next box.
  • Continue to configure your camera as described in your Network Camera Setup Notes.
    • Under the "Name" field, enter a name you want to give to that camera such as "Den Camera" for example.
    • From the "Camera Model" drop-down menu, select the model of camera you are setting up.
    • Click "Apply" at the bottom of the page.

Verifying your camera setup

  • Return to the Application Center by clicking on the link at the top-right of the page.
  • Select the MyCams application.
  • Your newly installed network camera should now show up as a thumbnail on the left of the page.
    • If you were not sure which IP address corresponded to your camera, and added several IP addresses as network cameras, only the one which was successfully determined to be a camera will appear. Make a note of its name. Return to the admin area and delete the entries for the other IP addresses.
