Table of Contents
This application provides an interface to manage all of the files that you have stored on the Server.
The left panel shows a tree of folders where folders can be added, deleted or renamed using the toolbar above. Clicking a folder will expand it and show its contents in the Application Panel.
The Application Panel shows folders and files. They can be displayed as a list or as thumbnails.
The Share tab displays directories and files in three different categories: Private, Public and Shared. Public folders are shown in green and are visible from the Internet. Private folders are visible only by you. Shared folders are marked with a hand, and are visible only to users to whom you have granted access. To learn more about sharing folders, see "File sharing" later in this section. You can email files by selecting them and clicking the Send button on the toolbar.
These items may help you with some common issues that arise.
Due to limitations in web browser technology, there is a limit to the size of files that can be uploaded or downloaded using the Axentra File Manager. This limit is 2 GiB (2,147,483,648 bytes). Larger files can still be transferred to and from the Axentra Server using MyDisk.
If you use tools like rsync or ssh to manipulate the files on your Server, be aware that these tools may change file permissions in such a way as to interfere with the functioning of your Server. All of your folders must be owned by group 'www' and be group-readable and -writeable in order to permit the Axentra File Manager to function. Symptoms that you may have incorrect permissions include being unable to copy files to a specific folder, thumbnail previews not appearing for images in a folder, or being unable to access your files with WebDAV. (The .ssh folder in your home folder is a common culprit in this last case.)
The following describes the functions that you can perform using the toolbar and various links available in the File application:

Here you can select a checkbox beside one or all of the files in the compressed file, select a destination for the extraction, and click Extract to extract the file(s) to the chosen destination.
An Administrator of your Axentra Server may choose to perform a backup of only certain data, to reduce the size of the backup. select the checkbox beside each folder you wish to be backed up in this manner, and click Backup to open the Backup dialog. In this dialog, add a checkmark next to each folder you want to mark for backup, and click Save Changes. Folders which have been marked for backup in this manner will have a small disk icon appear next to their name in the Files tab of the unifinder. [1]
You can share files with the world or limit access to a few privileged contacts. Place the files that you want the world to see in the Public Files directory of your File Manager application. Files in your Public Files directory are available to anyone via the Internet at http://axentraserver.example.com/files/username.
You can also set permissions on individual folders that you want to share with a select few. To share a folder with selected groups or individuals, select the checkbox beside the folder you want to share and click Sharing in the toolbar to open the Sharing dialog. The Protection area allows you to decide if you want to let the world have access to that folder (Public), to limit access to a few trusted individuals (Shared), or to not allow anyone else access to this folder (Private). You cannot set permissions on individual files.
If you decide to share a folder, you must create a Sharing List consisting of new contacts or contacts from your address books. As well, you can attach a password to the folder which is automatically emailed to the contacts on this Sharing List in the event that you want the added protection. Without using a password, the only protection is the hope that no one else knows the location of the folder. Select the checkbox beside the contact(s) to whom you want to grant access to the folder. A password can be generated automatically if you click Generate in the dialog, or you can enter a string of your own choosing.
Click Save Changes, and a Sharing Email dialog will open. You can send the default email text or modify it as you choose. Then select the users to send the email to, which will send them their access instructions and password.
Your shared folders are shown on the Shared tab of the Files application. Click the Shared tab to see the sharing settings.
If your Server has its own domain name then go to your browser and type http://axentraserver.example.com/files/username. A page will appear showing all public folders. Insert your email address and sharing password and you will see the shared folders. Click the Sign Out button when done.
If your Server have its own domain name then go to your browser and type http://axentraserver.example.com/photos/username
If your Server has its own domain name then go to your browser and type http://axentraserver.example.com/www/username
The Search tab on the left panel enables you to search for files in your file system.
[1] This action alone is not enough to ensure that your files will be backed up. An Administrator must actually create a backup, either scheduled or manual, and must select an option to back up your user data. If you are an Administrator, see the help section on Backup Configuration for details.
