Note that not all models of HipServ include this application.
The MyCams application lets you view and configure the cameras which are accessible by your HipServ device. Once you setup your network cameras for HipServ, you will be able to monitor your home from any PC/Mac web browser.
If you have not set up your camera yet, make sure your home network is running properly, that your modem, your router, your HipServ and your Windows 2000 or Windows XP PC are properly connected and are on, and that you can access the Internet from your PC. Unpack the Ethernet camera, plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet and plug one side of the network cable into your Ethernet Camera's Ethernet port, and the other side into one of your router's port.
With HipServ, there is no need for PC-based network camera setup. You simply setup your new UPnP camera from your HipServ account, it is that simple!
If your camera does not have Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) capabilities, you will need to configure it manually. Instructions can be found on the Non-UPnP Camera page in the Axentra Knowledge Base on our website.
The rest of the camera configuration is done in the Administration area on the “Ethernet Cameras” page of the Networking section.
The lower panel shows a list of thumbnail images. Each image is taken directly from its respective camera at set intervals. Clicking on a thumbnail will load that camera's configuration screen in a new browser window. This screen comes directly from your camera, and allows you to manipulate and use all of its features.
Note that not all cameras are supported by all web browsers. If you cannot see your camera settings page, or if you can not see the images or video that it produces, you may need to try another web browser, or contact the camera's manufacturer for help.
If your Ethernet Camera requires ActiveX controls, you will need to allow the automatic installation of these ActiveX controls onto your web browser when prompted for Camera ActiveX Installation. Web browser “Pop Up” blocking settings may prevent you from doing so. In that case, you will need to allow the ActiveX pop up temporarily from your web browser. Note that only Internet Explorer for Windows supports ActiveX controls.
To change which cameras are visible in the list on the left, you will need to be an Administrator. See the “Ethernet Cameras” page of the Networking section in the Admininstration area.
You can view your cameras from anywhere on the Internet without having to sign in in to the main web-based interface. This is particularly useful for viewing your cameras from a PDA with wireless internet access. You can see a list of your cameras at http://example.hipspaces.com/cameras/, where example is the HipSpaces Name for your HipServ. You will be prompted for your HipServ user name and password if you are not already signed in. Then, clicking on a camera's name will show a picture from the camera. Click on the picture, or click or in your browser, to view an updated picture. The picture will be updated approximately every 30 seconds.
